Special 2020 Basketball Need to Know/Ticket Policies

Request and Reserve a Ticket

To maintain COVID-19 health and safety guidelines, there will be a limited number of tickets available in the student section for home basketball games. Tickets will be distributed using a request and claim process.

Once a ticket is reserved, you will need to print the ticket voucher. You may redeem your ticket at Gate A in Thompson Boling Arena using your ticket voucher beginning one (1) hour before tip-off. Once you redeem your voucher to receive your ticket, you will need to immediately pass through the gate to your seat.

Request Period – This is the initial period that begins at 10 a.m., one week before game day, until 9:30 a.m., five days before game day. For students to be considered in the selection process, they must request a ticket.

Claim 1 – Once the request period closes, the system will begin the selection process. When the selection process concludes, notifications are sent out to all students letting them know if they were selected or put on the waiting list. All students selected must claim their ticket during Claim 1, which will begin at 10 a.m. five days before game day and end at 9:30 a.m. four days before game day. If students do not claim their ticket during Claim 1, their ticket is then released for Claim 2.

Claim 2 – Once Claim 1 concludes, there is another selection process for those on the waiting list. These students are notified by email that they were chosen for Claim 2. Claim 2 runs from 10 a.m. four days before game day and end at 9:30 am, three days before game day. Any unclaimed tickets during Claim 2 will be sold during Open Sales.

Open Sales – This is also referred to as the On-Demand period. This begins at 10 a.m. three days before game day and ends at 9:30 am, two days before game day or until all tickets are reserved, whichever comes first. This is when any unclaimed tickets that remain after “Claim 2” are reserved.

To cancel your reservation –log in to the online ticket system and click on the cancellation tab on the left-hand side of the page. Select the game you will not be attending and cancel your reservation.

Students

Students must be currently enrolled and have been assessed the full student programs and services fee to be eligible for the opportunity to attend UT basketball games. Eligible students are not guaranteed a ticket.

Cost

Home student basketball tickets are free.

Students who reserve a ticket but fail to attend two games without canceling your ticket in advance will result in revocation of basketball attendance privileges for the remainder of the season. To cancel a ticket, you must log into your Big Orange Tix account and click “Cancellations” and select the game you wish to cancel.

Important points regarding the policy:
Canceling your reservation is easy—all you need to do is log in at the online ticket system and click on the cancellation tab on the left-hand side of the page. Select the game you will not be attending and cancel your reservation.

You are able to cancel your reservation until tip-off on game day.

You must redeem your ticket voucher and have your ticket scanned at the student gate by halftime to verify attendance. No entry will be allowed into Thompson Boling Arena after the conclusion of the first half.

You will receive a reminder email after one no-show to help you avoid a second occurrence.

Seating is limited to individual seats or in pairs, with social distancing measures in place between seat assignments.

All other procedures and policies regarding basketball tickets remain the same.

We are implementing this policy to allow more students the opportunity to attend games, not to punish students. We hope that everyone will comply with the policy so that no one will have privileges revoked, and everyone who wishes to attend games will have the opportunity to do so.

Please help us spread the word to the student body. If you have any questions regarding the policy, please contact us at bigorangetix@utk.edu or 865-974-8587.

Students have secure personal accounts in the online student ticketing system from which to manage their account information, track their attendance history, view their loyalty point total, and activate their VolCard for a basketball game.

Email opt-out — By registering for tickets, students consent to receiving emails related to their ticket requests. Students can opt out of receiving additional emails regarding athletics events by checking the “disable emails” button under their student status information on the student information page of the online student ticket system. Students will then receive only emails related to their ticket requests (for example, email notification of being awarded a ticket).

Reminder emails — Students can choose to receive an automatic email reminder at the beginning of each ticket request period by checking the “reminder email” button under their student status information on the student information page of the online student ticket system.

Student home basketball game vouchers will be distributed on a lottery basis through the online student ticketing system. To obtain a voucher, students need to log in to the system at the appropriate time (see the men’s and women’s ticket schedules) and request a ticket.

PLEASE NOTE: Women’s basketball games will be distributed on a first come, first served basis.

If a student is selected and reserves a ticket, or reserves a ticket during Open Sales , you will need to print the ticket voucher. You may redeem your ticket at Gate A in Thompson Boling Arena using your ticket voucher and presenting your Volcard beginning one (1) hour before tip-off until the end of the first half. Once you redeem your voucher to receive your ticket, you will need to immediately pass through the gate to your seat.

Cancellation
If after reserving your ticket you determine that you will be unable to attend the game, you must log back in to the online student ticketing system and cancel your reservation. This will provide another student the opportunity to obtain a voucher and attend the game.

In order to provide the greatest number of students the opportunity to obtain tickets, student season tickets are not available. Tickets will be distributed on a game-by-game basis only.

No loyalty points are awarded for attending home basketball games.

Student guest tickets are not available for home basketball games.

To avoid a secondary market of tickets, Ticket Transfers will be disabled. Only the purchaser of a ticket may use the ticket, and any attempt by a student to use someone else’s ticket will result in both names being turned over to Student Conduct and Community Standards for review.

In order to enhance safety and expedite fan entry at Tennessee athletic events, the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, has implemented safety policies for fans bringing bags into all athletic venues, including Thompson-Boling Arena.

Only one clear plastic bag no larger than 12 inches by 6 inches by 12 inches or a one-gallon clear resealable plastic storage bag per person will be permitted. Fans will also be allowed a small clutch purse not to exceed 4.5 inches by 6.5 inches.
